They say that absence makes the heart grow fonder.

This applies to things as well as people. Let's look at it through a travel lens.

You are in America. It's 8:15am, coffee time. You get an oddly brown liquid. You find yourself thinking: I wish they had decent coffee here.

You are in Paris. You've had that coffee. Maybe two of them. Now you're busting. You pay five euros to use a well-sat-upon French cafe toilet. I wish they had public toilets here.

You are in Greece. You've used that toilet. Time to rehydrate. You grab a glass and turn on the tap. Stop. Unless you want more toilet time, you need bottled water. I wish I could just drink straight from the tap here.

Sometimes it's the little things that make us appreciate what we have at home. But without the contrast, without the experience of being somewhere different, how would we ever truly know to appreciate it?

Travel doesn't just broaden the mind. It reminds you how good home is too.

Summer is here. Drink it up.
